The Truth About Moghul Catering

Writer's picture: Laone and GapeLaone and Gape

Like every other student, Laone and Gape often go to Moghul and this is what they have to say. I've had an unreasonable amount of bad experiences with Moghul. It's my least favourite caterer to be honest. Personally, I only started eating from Moghul after Gape told me about the chowmein because its way too far for my liking.

1. I will never be caught eating Moghul ice cream EVER!

My first terrible experience with Moghul was the time I found hair in my ice cream. After a long hot day in school all I wanted was my favourite treat in the whole wide world. Imagine the hurt I felt when I discovered there was hair in my ice cream; I was honestly distraught. It was quite the way to end the already bad day. I was tired and I decided not to go talk to them about it but after I threw it into the trash can, I realised that the entire ice cream batch for the day was probably contaminated so I decided to take the issue to moghul catering. When I got there I spoke to the cashier that was serving at the time and requested to speak to someone who would be able to assist me as she was busy with other customers. She then asked to see the hair I was talking about and proceeded to downplay the issue. She suggested that it was at worst an eyelash or eyebrow and there was nothing to be concerned about. I was beyond shocked and insisted the batch be thrown out because it was eitherway contaminated, she stood her ground and even got the customer she was assisting at the time to agree with her that it was just a small bit of hair. I do not feel like the consumer's health is largely considered at Moghul because otherwise, the issue would've been taken seriously. For this very reason I'd rather be caught dead than eat ice cream from Moghul again, or any of their food for that matter.

2. Chicken Chowmein

Before the scary hair incident I was quite a fan of Moghul chicken chowmien. The first time I had it, it scratched an itch I didn't know I had. The spagghetti noodles were perfectly cooked and the chicken was well seasoned and cooked. I was in love with the spicy kick of the dish and I honestly couldn't get enough. I did notice though, that it was more of a stirfry than the traditional chowmein. The next few times after that it did not hit as good as the first time so I stopped getting it. I on the other hand am in love with the chowmein, especially the chilli oil/sauce they use. Despite the number of times Gape says its not as good as before I will still go all the way to Moghul for more.

3. Chicken Burger

Visually, the Moghul burger is appealing. It looks saucy and nice, but the taste element of it is quite off. The chicken patty is dry, the lettuce is wilty and the buns taste stale. Maybe I just had it on a bad day, but I wouldn't recommed someone to buy it. Contrary to what Gape is saying, the burger was nice and I enjoyed it.

4. Chips

The chips were quite good until they decided to pre-season them with aromat. I'm not a fan of aromat so they really just ruined them. Personally, I love their chips though they are pre-seasoned with aromat. Its nice that they use the frozen chips from stores rather than cutting manually. Sometimes, the chips taste a bit undone but I still enjoy them- I really love french fries/chips. Its dissapointing that they don't have chili bite (chip spice) or anything to make them spicy.

5. Fat Cake

They have fatcakes that are quite large and at the sight of them, I was excited but alas, I got disappointed. The fatcake was undercooked which is such a huge let down if you are a fan of "magwinya".

6. Mac&Cheese

The macaroni and cheese was an awkward experience. It was nothing like the usual mac and cheese I'm used to. It was not creamy and cheesy as you would expect a mac and cheese and it also had some chicken pieces in it which I guess I could say makes it better. I was still not a big fan of it regardless. I will commend the portion size though, it proves to be very filling if one enjoys it. This was such a rip-off, nowhere near actual mac&cheese. It didn't look nice and was just horrible. I'm trying to be as nice as I can but this was kinda disgusting to be honest. I wasn't suprised because it doesn't even look appealing.
